Program Requirements
F-1 Program Applicants Must:
- Obtain a valid passport
- Meet visa requirements to enter the United States
- Not have graduated from high school prior to enrolling
- Demonstrate language proficiency sufficient to take full curriculum taught in English
- Provide official school transcripts showing individual courses and grades/marks for each term, with school stamp or administrator's signature documenting successful completion of educational equivalent of U.S. 9th grade at a minimum
- Demonstrate the equivalent of a C-average, or 2.0 cumulative GPA in high school coursework
- Prove physical and emotional wellness, including official immunization record and full medical report completed by a physician
- Obtain adequate health and travel insurance that meets program requirements prior to leaving your home country
- Provide evidence of financial ability to cover all program costs

Tuition & Fees
2021-2022 JIEP F-1 Program costs include but are not limited to the following:
Tuition & Fees
- Tuition and fees are calculated by a formula determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and cover costs associated with attending one of our public high schools for one academic year.
- Tuition & Fees: $14,000 USD
- Room and board fees cover expenses while residing with a host family for the academic year, including but not limited to: food, lodging, transportation to and from school.
- Room & Board: $14,000 USD
- Students accepted to our program will need to obtain necessary travel documents, passport, visa, etc. at their own cost.
- Estimated Passport & Visa fees: $400 USD (may vary)
- Students accepted to our program are required to obtain health and travel insurance at their own expense.
- Estimated Health & Travel Insurance: $500 USD (may vary)
- Travel costs from the home country to/from O'Hare International Airport are at the expense of the student's family.
Application Process & Timeline
HOW TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION
Welcome to the School District of Janesville (SDJ) International Education Program website. We are committed to helping you succeed in your educational goals. Please start by reviewing your eligibility as well as all other information on this page. After reviewing the information carefully, you may complete the online application. The information you provide will be kept confidential and used only in evaluating your request for admission, making the proper school placement, and making an appropriate host family placement.
Complete Application Form
After you have reviewed all information, you may proceed to complete the application form.
IMPORTANT:
- The application MUST be completed in English.
- We recommend that you first review the application questions, then prepare your responses on a separate document, and finally transfer them into the online application form.
- Parents or guardians will also be required to sign the application electronically prior to submission.
- Your responses will NOT be saved until all questions have been answered and submitted.
Submit Your Test Scores
You are required to submit a TOEFL test score. Please use our school number: 7586 (School District of Janesville) for direct TOEFL score reporting by your testing center. Dates and locations of testing facilities near you are found on the TOEFL site: Testing Sites

Teacher Recommendation Letter
Print the confidential English Teacher Evaluation, and give it to your English teacher. Your teacher will complete it and return it directly to us. Instructions and addresses for returning the form are on the letter.
School Transcripts
Your school must provide an official transcript or transcripts of courses and grades/marks from the past three academic years. Transcripts should include courses in which you are currently enrolled. A grading/marking scale or an explanation of the grading/marking system should be included. If transcripts are in a language other than English, an English translation should also be included. Schools should send transcripts directly to the following address:

An overall C average, or 2.0 cumulative GPA (grade point average) by SDJ grading standards is the minimum required for participation in the Janesville International Education Program.

All the following documents are required for review prior to acceptance and must be completed in English. Failure to send these documents in a timely manner may result in your application being turned down. Please make sure you have followed instructions as directed. - Official School Transcripts and Current Course Marks (to be submitted by Principal/Headmaster)

After You Apply for Admission
After you submit your application and other required documents, you will be contacted to schedule a video interview. Upon completion of the interview and a thorough review of your application materials, your family will be notified of the admissions decision.
After You are Accepted
After acceptance, you will be issued a confirmation letter and an I-20 letter. You will need to schedule an appointment with the US Consulate Office in your country to apply for your visa. You must bring these items with you to present at this appointment.
Other Very Important Information
- Notify SDJ immediately when you receive your US visa.
- Host Family placement will be determined after acceptance.
- Tuition Payment for the first semester is due BEFORE you leave your home country to travel to Janesville. Instructions for the wire transfer will be provided after you notify SDJ that you have been granted a Visa.
